Loka

Loka provides a shared UI foundation for Venu, establishing centralized design tokens, accessible components, and fluid micro-interactions across independent web apps.

Loka
The Context

Problem Statement

When building a large application like Venu across multiple Microfrontends, UI inconsistency is a common issue. Loka was created as a shared design system to ensure that buttons, forms, and layouts look and feel the same across the entire ecosystem.

The Hurdle

Technical Challenge

The core challenge was building a fast, reusable UI library that maintains visual consistency without mixing in any ticketing-specific business logic.

CSS Variables

Centralized Theming

Used CSS Variables to create a single source of truth for typography, spacing, and colors. This makes it easy to apply the brand's visual identity across any remote application.

Animations & Layouts

Built-in Micro-Interactions

Added animations and layout transitions directly into base components, ensuring that everyday interactions (like opening a modal or hovering a button) feel polished without requiring developers to write custom animation code.

Modals & Toast Pipeline

Accessible Overlays & Feedback

Engineered animated dialog modals with backdrop blur and stacking toast notification pipelines, delivering fluid user feedback without causing layout shifts across independent microfrontends.

The Ecosystem

Design System Guidelines

To ensure consistency across all Microfrontends, I documented the core design tokens, typography scales, and base components in a central hub.

Loka Showcase

The Result

Loka significantly reduced UI inconsistencies across Venu's ecosystem. It provided product teams with a ready-to-use toolkit that sped up the development of new features.

Lessons Learned

Building Loka emphasized the importance of strict API boundaries. I learned that a UI component must remain completely unaware of business data in order to be genuinely reusable in different contexts.
